Hunnypot's favorite ROCK outfit Viagra Boys just released a video to the single "Just Like You". The Street Worms album is just nine tracks long, it's a brilliant and concise portrait of who this Swedish band are. The Viagra Boys album is a brawling collection of scuzzy, yet precise street blues and freaky, often twisted imagery that lifts the listener to a powerful new level. Don't miss the band's LA show at The Echo March 20th, 2019.

In the ethos of rock history there will always be that line drawn in the sand that some fans refuse to cross. Purists that refuse to accept that the band they grew up will never be the same without its original founding members and those that simply welcome their evolution into something greater. I fall into the latter.

Queensrÿche has always been one of those bands marked with a history as glorious as it is turbulent. With those countless radio hits and their eponymous album, Operation: Mindcrime in their back catalog, they could have very easily continued as a shell of their former selves; releasing album after album of Greatest Hits and Live recordings while living quite comfortably. Yet, in this post-Tate world, the band surprisingly continues to persevere because of their history, not in spite of it.

The Verdict, Queensrÿche’s 16th studio album (not counting former vocalist, Geoff Tate’s controversial, Frequency Unknown) and third with glass-shattering vocalist, Todd La Torre at the forefront, is a solid addition to the canon and perhaps their heaviest outing in decades.

Unlike most of Queensrÿche’s previous works, there is no gradual ascent to the summit on the opening track. This album immediately threatens to pull your head back and send it straight into your steering wheel right from the get-go. "Blood of the Levant", the album’s opener, is a full-throttle, groove-laden song that lays a powerful foundation for what’s to come.

The Verdict plays like a glorious soundtrack to a movie never made. It tosses you through turbulent storms and highway chases at full speed that cause you to fear for the hero at times and raise your fists in the air and cheer them on during others.

In tradition with the band’s past, it is not without its epic ballads. "Dark Reverie" is a tortured opus that stands well on it’s own and adds a nice break in the barrage of riffs that came before, with solid and revealing vocal performance by La Torre.

Besides the album’s modern production & thicker guitar driven sound, thanks in-part to master mixer & producer, Chris “Zeuss” Harris (Rob Zombie, Hatebreed, Shadows Fall) the most obvious stand out on The Verdict are Todd La Torre’s multiple contributions. The band has chosen to embrace his aggressive musical influences, all-the-while not sacrificing the catchy hooks, uplifting choruses and classic melodies that made Queensrÿche a household name. A fierce beast of a vocalist by his own right, La Torre has finally come into his own and learned how to nail you to the wall with his explosive, Halford-esque falsetto when it matters most and even lending his impressive drumming skills in the absence of original drummer, Scott Rockenfield, to the album.

With solid compositions, heart-wrenching solos, and just downright amazing songwriting, both longtime fans and newcomers to the fold will find The Verdict is a welcome addition to an already timeless catalog of incredible albums from one of Progressive Rock’s greatest treasures.

As always, rock on my friends!     Hunnypot Approved!     Overall Rating:  9.3 out of 10

Hunnypot loves Baby FuzZ and their new Video/Single release "What U Gonna Do 4 Luv" does not disappoint delivering us all a new disco classic.

The music video could best be described as a late night infomercial disco fever dream. Starring Danny Tamberelli (Pete and Pete, The Mighty Ducks), the nesto directed video is a trippy sales pitch for a cure all product called 'luv' that solve all of the viewers' problems. The video builds to a furious pace, culminating in an uneasy and ultimately dark commentary sure to give every red blooded capitalist seizures. Complete with a 90s workout dance crew and twisted Bee Gees style vocals, "What U Gonna Do 4 Luv" is yet another wild and incredible music video from nesto and the Baby FuzZ crew.

Paper Jackets's new music video, is and has got us "Triggered"

Catch them performing live at our Hunnypot Live show #413 on April 1st at The Mint.

Paper Jackets emerged from the LA indie pop scene inhabited by producer Ethan Kaufmann — a driving influence of the band’s electrifying, synth-pop sound.

The line-up consists of lead vocalist James MasonEmily Dickinson on keyboard, Jonny Vesely on guitar and Miles Franco on bass. The five teamed up in Silver Lake, CA to record the band’s first EP, Don't Lose Your Head, a twenty minute set of songs that weaves the singer’s natural emotive voice into Kaufmann’s slick production in his East Hollywood studio dubbed “The Elephant in the Room.”

Affected by artists such as The 1975GrouploveCHVRCHES, and Walk the MoonPaper Jackets offers pop listeners a fist full of glitter amid the layers of their synth inspired sound, memorable hooks and catchy phrases from start to finish.

Stacked high with experimental indie rock and synth-pop gleam, the 6 tracks off their debut EP are all buoyed by keen lyricism. Thematically, the songs conform around the anxiety and tension that nearly every 20-something has grappled with: transitioning from a more careless existence to fitting in with the bewildering idea of what it means to be an “adult.” The EP also calls to attention the damage done to personal relationships caught in the corners of addiction and depression.Celebratory singles “Trigger” and “Girl” are set on robust choruses and fetching verses! The carefully placed percussion layers and synth progressions provide the base for Mason’s musings. “Trigger” preaches to anyone who has cracked or lost their phone during a night of heavy boozing: Sometimes it’s just easier to find delight in the screw-up and accept it as a souvenir of an awesome night of revelry. “Mary Louise” finds Mason nostalgic for his days living in LA in the mid-2000’s, reminiscing on past friends and debaucherous times. The album closes with "1985" a song about never getting older in a fleeting world.

Before 2019 the best new "Green Deal" we had was a discount at the dispensary. Hunnypot Live #411 was informational and we shared our green deals with many. We got down to cannabuisiness with grooves from Hot Tub Johnnie. Heather Kreamer hot boxed us with her music supervisor origin story and ripped a solid playlist set of music. 2019 Grammy winners (best new age album), Opium Moon, hashed out beautiful exotic, world music. Old_Sport got their last hit of playing LA joints for a while and played their hearts out. Powersolo Bong'd and Rolled us all the way from Denmark. O.C. Hurricanes was something to THC and hear with their brand of maximum chicano R&B. Pacific Radio didn't bogart that stage and invited everyone to join their band and the night closed with another famous Hunnypot Live dance party. 03/04/2019

OPIUM MOON FEAT. LILI HAYDN

"Opium Moon’s debut album is a sublime and sensual brew of strings, percussion and bass that transports the listener to a musically soulful Shangri-La.” – Victoria Looseleaf, ArtNowLA

Sensuous and hypnotic, elegant yet deeply emotional, the music of Opium Moon evokes the mysteries of ancient worlds while remaining thoroughly contemporary. The Los Angeles-based ensemble’s cinematic soundscapes draw upon the virtuosic skills and diverse ethnic backgrounds of its members: Iranian santoor master Hamid Saeidi, innovative Israeli bassist Itai Disraeli, sought-after American percussionist M.B. Gordy, and the exceptionally expressive Canadian-American violinist Lili Haydn, whose passion and fluid mastery of her instrument enchant in every song.

Opium Moon’s eponymous debut album is our now on the Be Why Music label, distributed through ADA/Warner. The video of “Caravan” by Academy Award-nominated Genghis Blues director Roko Beliç debuted on NPR All Songs considered NPR.org. Lili Haydn’s third TED presentation is also live.

PACIFIC RADIO

PACIFIC RADIO

“You know those bands that the moment you get to the first chorus of their first song you realize, holy f*ck, they are gonna be HUGE. Introducing, Pacific Radio. With a penchant for big freaking hooks, thundering bass lines and singalong choruses, they remind me of The Killers, Weezer, the Airborne Toxic Event, Eagles of Death Metal and early Foo Fighters all poured into one flaming mojito.”

~Keith Creighton (Pop Dose)

Pacific Radio is a sonic collision of energetic garage rock with L.A. heartbreak. It's origins can be traced back to when Joe Robinson (singer/ guitar) and Joe Stiteler (bass) left L.A. punk band The Ringers in search of a more dynamic sound and space. The duo grew to a quartet with the addition of Kyle Biane (Guitar) and Hyke Shirinian (Drums). Stiteler, Biane and Shirinian created the perfect backdrop for Robinson’s catchy melodies.

After the release of their debut EP, 2017 saw the band hit the road with their wildly charismatic live show. From their home base in L.A. to Austin to Seattle to Napa’s Bottlerock Music Festival, the band began winning over fans from festivals to dive bars.

Between tour dates, the band retreated to the studio with Grammy nominated engineer and producer, Eric Weaver, putting the finishing touches on their upcoming full length album “Pretty, but Killing Me”. They diligently transformed their songs from wild rock show crowd-pleasers into a meticulously crafted record inspired by their heroes.

"Pacific Radio is a band that listeners will fall in love with from their Pop Rock to Punk Rock tempos and upbeat sound. Even with a theme around heartache and love each song has its own sound and style.” ~Alexis Coleman (Side Stage Magazine)

"...even though I hadn’t heard a single song from this band, their performance had me dancing like a maniac before the first song even finished" ~Kylie Banks (The Music Court)

Michete's new song "I Cannot Survive" feat. Raven Hollywood and DoNormaal" will make you want to lay back and just chill. Michete's honest lyrics about her feelings towards being high, are real, authentic, and a reflection of troubles people face in society today. Michete tackles issues of depression, suicidal thoughts, and drug abuse. Raven Hollywood, and DoNormaal bring hypnotizing vibes to the track. Both of their unique melodies really take the listeners for a ride down the emotional moods that these artists are feeling.

When Michete calls herself an underground pop star, one doesn’t just need to take her at her word. The emcee, singer, and producer doesn’t have an official full-length album out yet, though she does have plenty of recordings (she dropped her Cool Tricks 3 EP last year), and has already played multiple sold-out shows supporting acts like cupcakKe and Shamir. Originally from Spokane, Michete’s made a name for herself as the performer to see at events aimed at large audiences.

Hunnypot can't survive without the artistic genius of Michete!

It took me a hot minute to get my bearings once "Diamond Nights" began. I knew that beat but where had I heard it before? After a bit of research I discovered it was a variation of a bass line similar to The Gorillaz hit "Stylo." And then I heard a voice that was also somehow familiar. Almost immediately I got a sense of Kim Wilde or even Patty Donahue of The Waitresses once Rocket began to playfully sing.

As Rocket's singing continued I started to see some striking comparisons with Debbie Harry's performance of the Blondie hit "Rapture." Again a little more research and I discovered those comparisons were rightly justified given that Lauren herself cites Blondie as an influence.

The official music video for "Diamond Nights" is very surreal with images from Las Vegas that I couldn't help but compare to the hypnotic Francis Ford Coppola/Tom Waits collaboration, "One From The Heart." Similarly my initial impressions of the song's lyrics were that they take you on a trip; definitely a call to adventure.

At two minutes and fifty-three seconds this is both a club and radio friendly song that could be easily extended into more of a spoken word track similar to The Nails hit, "88 Lines About 44 Women." Needless to say "Diamond Nights" has an early 80s new wave vibe. Save the date as Lauren Rocket will be performing for the 4/29 Hunnypot party!
