On June 4th, Daisy Grenade with support from Vienna Vienna brought their vibrant and whimsical energy to The Roxy. It was a packed show filled with excited fans. When I got there, I thought it would be hard to move through the crowd, but everyone was really friendly. It was a night with good energy, good vibes, and cool people to be around.
Vienna Vienna, with his unique glimmer rock sound, sass, and relatable energy, got the show started. His setlist that night consisted of songs such as “Buzz,” “Molly,” “Make A Man Out Of You,” “Sex Drugs Whatever,” “Cashgrab,” “Grief Is For The Living,” “Vienna (Everything’s Fine),” and “God Save The Queens.” I remember at one point during the set, Vienna Vienna had a radiant smile on his face, and you could tell how much music and performing mean to him. He moved on the stage in a way that matches his music. You could hear the audience cheering during “God Save The Queens.” It’s one of those songs that I really connected with, and I could easily see it being an anthem for the LGBTQ+ community. I’ve been listening to Vienna Vienna’s music on repeat since the show, and I’m surprised I’m only just now finding out about him. I’m excited to see where his music goes from here.
Now Daisy Grenade came onto the stage in a way that does justice to their band name. Needless to say, it was explosive in the best way possible. Both the singers and the guitarists were spinning around on stage. The band also knew how to get right in front of the audience in a way to truly make the fans feel immersed in the moment. They even surprised us by having The Ready Set perform with them for their song “Already Dead.” It was an electrifying moment. They also had moments where they got the audience directly involved, such as having each side of the audience compete over who could be louder.
For their song “Emily,” they had a girl come on stage, wear bunny ears, and play the role of Emily for the night. The way the girls moved around on stage reminded me of ballet mixed with musical theater. The way they moved on stage felt like they were visually telling a story with both their movements and the music. They knew how to move with each other in a way that shows they’re connected. Daisy Grenade speaks up against injustice with songs such as “Hypocrite,” but they are also donating a portion of their ticket sales to the nonprofit Let’s Give A Damn.
Daisy Grenade has raised money for both food stamps and reproductive rights. They’re never afraid to speak up and have spent a lot of their career taking action to help out people and the community. Some other songs from their setlist that night included “A Beautiful Woman Is A Weapon, I Guess That’s Why They Call Her A Bombshell” (which was the song they opened with), “How To Hide A Body,” “Got It Bad,” “Are You Scared Of Me Yet?,” “Don’t Sweat It,” “Real Horror Show,” and “Riot,” along with a bunch of other songs that will have you dancing around your bedroom in the middle of the night.
I’m excited to see how Daisy Grenade and Vienna Vienna continue to impact people and change the world around them with their music. Both artists are performing for Warped Tour, and with their talent and stage presence, you can easily see why. For them alone, I recommend going to Warped Tour. You won’t regret it. I can’t wait to catch both bands again soon.
